The Contingent Chain

Unbroken, Unlikely Thread

Our world exists because of a cosmic collision.

About 4.5 billion years ago, a protoplanet the size of Mars, now named Theia, slammed into a young Earth. The impact was cataclysmic. It shattered both worlds, and from the resulting ring of debris, our Moon was born. Without this specific, violent, and chance event, Earth’s axis would wobble uncontrollably, creating wild climate swings hostile to life. The tides would be negligible. The rhythm of our world would be fundamentally different, if it existed at all.

This is one link in what I call the Contingent Chain. To understand it, I document each event like this:

This project, the Contingent Chain Ledger, is my personal effort to chronicle these events. I am exploring this space through my own lens, hoping to find new ways of seeing the world.

This isn’t just a collection of facts; it’s a journey of self-discovery. It’s helping me understand the intricate and fragile nature of reality. My hope is that it can serve as a catalyst for you to explore your own understanding of how you reached this moment, in the way you have, and how the universe operates around you.

Join me on this journey. It’s a story that belongs to all of us, and it will change the way you see the world—and your own precious place within it.

Understanding now, one event at a time!
